Message Carriers is a derivative of The Society of Americans for Recovery (SOAR), which was founded by the Late Senator Harold E. Hughes.  SOAR was a grass-roots organization of concerned people from all walks of life.  Message Carriers has started where SOAR has left off being dedicated to the fundamental belief that those who suffer from alcohol, drug dependent people and their families should have the same rights and privileges as all other people.  As SOAR has done in the past we strive for a better understanding that treatment and recovery will reduce many other health, social, and economic problems.
More men, women and even children need help to escape the suffering of alcoholism and other addiction disease than ever before, yet resources to help and/or access to such help keeps growing less.  Message Carriers is designed to provide opportunities to reach out, to be a volunteer in and for recovery in the spirit of the 12th Step (Having had a spiritual awakening), but recognizing that each person has his/her own specific gifts to share.  We are designed to provide and coordinate in a variety of ways for those in recovery to keep it by giving it away.  Message Carriers is one way in which to assist with sustaining ones recovery journey.  Our programs are implemented primarily by our volunteers. Get involved by supporting recovery and become a volunteer.  Help us grow to become a strong voice for Recovery!  When YOU join Message Carriers,YOU will champion hope, justice, and opportunity for all whose lives are damaged by disease of alcoholism and drug dependency.
